Evidently there are two bills: H.R. 6106 & S. 3378

It appears that both bills have been referred to their respective committees.

Beyond that very broad status report, does anyone have info (or theories) as to what's really going on with these bills?

According to govtrack.com, the senate bill http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/s3378 has a 3% chance of being enacted.

The house bill http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/hr6106 has a 1% chance of being enacted.

Specifically, how does polygraph figure into these bills?

Dan

I presented on this at APA. We really don't know where polygraph fits in. It depends on how you define "physical evidence." My president's message was based, in large part, on what is going on behind the scenes with this bill and the Leahy bill, which is still in the mix. These are lighter versions of Leahy, and they have the support of key players in the forensic science community, including the IACP. Regardless of where we fit (or don't), we'll be held to the same standards.

If I ever have time, I'll write up the presentation for the APA magazine.
